Please see below what you will expect in our exciting day of Floristry training:

Course name: Funeral Flower Masterclass

Price: £1,200

Time: (9am-4pm)
This time will depend on experience. Do NOT feel pressured with this time frame. We will make sure you walk away with everything you need to know.

How the day transpires:
  • We start the day as if it was a typical day in the life of a florist for an insight of how your future days as a florist may look like.
  • We unbox our fresh flowers, delivered on the day from wholesale and learn how to price stems in order to gain a profit. You will need to know all your funeral arrangement and bouquet prices before the first interaction with the family or Next of Kin. I would recommend making a funeral flower guide for your families to look through on consultation or have a section on your website displaying your work and prices, I will let you know everything you need to be able to achieve this. We look through the best wholesalers in your area to make sure you’re ordering the best quality and service available. As well as being able to get any bespoke floral foam shapes or sundries on demand or before you start creating. We also go through if a customer would like to collect their flowers or if they would like them delivered to the funeral home or to their address. How far you are able to deliver depending on how many tributes you have. I will also let you know the best way to interact with the bereaved and take funeral orders properly. We also talk through recipes and the best stems to use in your bouquets and  arrangements, so you know exactly what to order so you’re not left with masses of extra stock when you’re beginning.

We then start CREATING ðŸŒ¸ðŸ’•
  • Firstly, we start by easing you in gently with a simple sheaf bouquet. This is a flat bouquet which can sit on the coffin or on the hearse. I teach you the art of spiralling your stems on the table and using different lengths of stems in order to gain the perfect flat bouquet shape. As well as wrapping your sheaf with a technique specifically used for this style of bouquet, binding your stems and applying ribbon bows.

  • Secondly we will be creating a posy. Posies are very popular for small gestures or gifts for the deceased. We will be using a floral foam tray and binding our floral foam onto the tray so it stays put. Learning the art of using flowers in smaller units in order to put the stems in properly for maximum life. As well the golden rules of floristry working with triangles and lines in order to get the perfect posy shape.

  • Next we will be creating a 3ft coffin spray. I will teach you how to make the structure of the coffin spray in a diamond shape using foliage and then this is where are newly learned skills of triangles and lines come into play as well with the flowers we will be using. We will be using various foliage and flowers to create our flower spray.

  • We then go onto a single ended or year drop coffin spray which is used with the same principle as the coffin spray we just made but one of the ends we have to make into a semi circle shape to create a tear drop shape. The flower placement is very different in here and takes more skills to master and I will teach you all of this.

  • Next we go onto Funeral Letters. We learn how to pleat our ribbon to create the ribbon edge around our letters, the art of massing the surface of the letters with chrysanthemums in lines to create visually pleasing, neat lettering to really create the best shape we can achieve. We then learn how to create mini flower sprays on the letter and how to place these in the best location on the letter. We use the letter M as this is the most tricky letter to master and once you have mastered the M, you can master any letter easily.
We will also discuss the different ways we can use flowers and foliage in the letters.
  • We will then make a wreath tribute. Which is a ring design. This will be a different technique of massing than the letter as we will be using various flowers and foliage in this arrangement not chrysanthemum based. This type of style I call full flower or open flower arrangements. We will use foliage for the edging instead of pleating with ribbon and the whole surface will be covered with small units of flower and foliage heads. This technique can also be used in other funeral flower shapes and the letters for any tribute requested.

  • A bespoke tribute. We will be creating an angel design. You will be asked by families to create bespoke designs like a dog, a football, a car, a helmet, an action figure and anything and everything that the deceased may have been fond of. It is vital to know what you are doing here. So we will be creating an angle design using various techniques using chrysanthemum massing, full flower massing, adding feathers to the wings, pleating ribbon, using the cricut machine to print out a name sash and printing and laminating an emblem. This will give you the knowledge to go away confidently knowing that you will be able to fulfil these ordered 2D or 3D and remember I’m always here to help afterwards.

All your bouquets and arrangements will be critiqued by me whilst making them to make sure you are fully aware of the placement, quality and look of your designs so they are the best they can possibly be so at the end of the day, we can take photos of your work for content ready for social media, your website or portfolio. You can also take your work away with you to take more content, take apart and practise more or sell them, possibly making your first sales!

What’s with the wait? There is no better time to start your Funeral floristry career than now.
